Exploring the Web

Web 2.0, where to begin. I thought I was familiar to with the web and using the internet but wow was I wrong. There is so much that is new to me and this class is inspiring me to explore and learn.

I do have to be honest and say that exploring is starting to overwhelm me since there is so much out there I did not even know about. I have set up my RSS reader on feedreader.com and hope that can help keep my new online life organized. Although I am thinking about switching to feedspot and signing up for their free year as a classmate pointed out in one of his blackboard posts. If anyone has opinions on the two or a tip to stay electronically organized please feel free to comment(: I have already added most classmates blogs to feedreader but that's an easy switch if I decide to change readers! The hard part for me will be finding other things to follow and communities to join. I'll continue my research on that topic tomorrow. For now I would like to set a goal for myself to check my feeder every day and stay up to date with a few of my classmates blogs. This course will help me be accountable for those goals and I look forward to interacting with my classmates and see where their web interests lie.

I have begun to search for communities but I am having trouble finding interacting communities rather than blogs. Prior to this class I only used Facebook and Instagram socially, but mostly to follow. Since I brought up Instagram, I would like to share my favorite Instagram page for anyone who is interested - Kayla is a fitness guru and I have purchased and use her workout guides! It inspires me to see all the effective transformations people get from trusting her.

Back to exploring the web... Tomorrow I will continue my search for online communities to join. I am interested in running and healthy living so hoping I can find one on that subject and one on instructional design too. I will try to start tweet-ing more as well (another goal of mine!).

Now it's time for me dive into reading Networked: The New Social Operating System by Lee Raine and Barry Wellman. Tune in tomorrow night to hear my feedback on that!

  1. Hang in there, Nicole. Week 1 is often overwhelming -- so much going on! The feed reader will help, and remember that you don't have to read or do everything. Also remember to pace yourself. The archives will remain after the course, and the wide world of the Internet will still be there. This course is just the introduction, the beginning to what you can do if you want to. :)
